Kathleen Hewitt-Blackie has over 25 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist. Initially, she specialized in sexual abuse, women's issues and eating disorders. In the early 90s, she did doctoral course work in feminist psychology and community organizing. She feels she can only be present for others to the extent that she has a commitment to my own learning and development. Catherine is employed full-time as Team Leader with the Family Counselling & Family Group Conferencing Team at Catholic Family Services in Hamilton, ON.

She completed her Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University. She has completed additional training in cognitive-behavioural therapy, couples counselling (Gottman Level 1), Trauma Assessment and Treatment, Addiction Studies, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, as well as Critical Incident Response, CyberCounselling and Clinical Supervision.

Catherine has experience assisting clients in better managing symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, depression, anger, trauma issues, low self-esteem, problematic substance use, abusive relationships, bereavement, general parenting issues, and issues related to separation/divorce. She provides single session walk-in counselling, as well as more intensive treatment protocols for addressing trauma symptoms and anxiety/mood concerns.  She also provides clinical supervision to therapists and Master's degree clinical placement students.  

She enjoys working collaboratively with adults, teenagers, children, families, and couples. She embraces anti-oppressive practice and seeks to respond sensitively to the unique needs of individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQ community, as well as seeking ongoing learning regarding how to to provide culturally sensitive counselling services.

Holly Kretschmer, RP
