38th Annual Conference and AGM: Trauma - Approaches to Recovery and Change
The OACCPP's 38th Annual Conference and AGM is in the rear view! We are pleased to report that the Conference was a resounding success.
The Conference opened on Thursday with the sold out and packed workshop on starting and managing a private practice offered by Andrea Liss and Trieneke Niemeyer. Reviews from participants were strong and attendance was high. We would like to give a special thanks to the session hosts for their informative discussion.
Thursday evening the OACCPP welcomed 15 different organizations and vendors to our inaugural Learning Exchange Expo. Attendees reported appreciation for the opportunity to speak with representatives from the CRPO, McFarlan Rowlands, Bell Temple, Leading Edge and many more. Members had the chance to acquire further knowledge in the areas of insurance coverage, different training opportunities and new technologies such as OWL practice and Greenspace that was geared towards making their practices more efficient and easier. We thank all the vendors and sponsors for making the night one to remember!
On Friday we kicked off the Conference with a thoughtful and passionate Keynote address from the Honourable Kevin Flynn, MPP and Minister of Labour for Ontario. Minister Flynn spoke to a captive audience about the growing recognition of the need for accessible mental health services and commended the members in attendance for their perseverance in bringing attention to the important issue of psychological wellness. He stressed the important economic consequences of ignoring mental health issues in the workplace and felt confident that the issue was only going to grow in visibility and importance in the coming years. OACCPP President James Whetstone thanked Minister Flynn for his remarks and presented him with an Award on behalf of the Association for his own work in bringing these important issues to the forefront.
Finally, we thank all those who attended our Annual General Meeting. Committee chairs were on hand to present their reports and approve the by-law changes made by the Governance and Risk Management Committee (GRMC). The AGM also brought forward and approved a new Slate of Officers for 2017.
Thank you once again. See you at the 39th Annual Conference in the fall of 2017!
