Kathy Vance , (C)OACCPP

Kathy is a member of Dan Dalton Clinical Psychology Services and a 2006 recipient of the certificate of completion:  Psychosocial Factors in Rehabilitation with Martyn R. Thomas.

Kathy’s physical and psychological journey, in tandem with her professional background, positions her as a gifted practitioner whose tenacity and love for people inspires confidence and change.

On one defining day in 1978 Kathy suffered a skiing accident.  After the bone mended, chronic travelling pain manifested throughout her body.  By necessity she became a consumer of many allopathic and complementary medical services.   Her impairments weren’t visible, so she had to develop her own survival mechanisms in the midst of personal, professional and financial challenges.  Known for her love of life and sense of levity, Kathy never lost hope, much in the spirit of ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you strong.’  She immersed herself in the study of the body’s soft tissues, the central nervous system and how the body is understood in a psychological context.  In February 2006 her research and persistence finally paid off when she traveled to Grenoble, France to consult with a renowned Osteopath, Dr. Jean-Pierre Barral who was able to teach and clear her body of the constant physical and attendant psychological pain.

The Feldenkrais Method® is a dynamic way to focus and improve central nervous system and motor development.  Kathy is a graduate of the 1987 Toronto Feldenkrais ® Training and teaches support and change strategies individually tailored to suit.  She has presented a series of seminars on the history, theory, and application of Feldenkrais work at the Shiatsu School of Tokyo, Toronto.

During her professional affiliation at the Psychotherapy Institute in Toronto (1987-2006) Kathy provided associate training to graduates of the Adler M.A. program as well as to physicians acquiring counseling skills.  She has taught at York University as a T.A. in the Masters of Education Program:  Co-operation in the Classroom
