Catherine Howson, M.A., (C)OACCPP
COUNSELLING ~ PSYCHOTHERAPY
Catherine is employed full-time as a Counsellor with the Family Counselling Unit at Catholic Family Services in Hamilton, ON, where she offers brief counselling services and single session walk-in counselling.
She completed her Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Toronto. She has completed additional training in Trauma Assessment and Treatment, Addiction Studies, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, as well as Critical Incident Stress Management (Level I) and CyberCounselling – an innovative approach to counselling using encrypted asynchronous email communication.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Catherine has experience assisting clients in better managing symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, depression, anger, trauma issues, low self-esteem, substance misuse and abuse, abusive relationships, bereavement, parent-child issues, general parenting issues, and issues related to separation/divorce. She also has experience developing and facilitating the KIDS Program at Catholic Family Services – a monthly drop-in program for parents seeking parenting support in the aftermath of separation/divorce.
CLIENTELE
She enjoys working collaboratively with adults, teenagers, children, families, and couples. She also welcomes GLBT clients and clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE & WORKSHOPS
Catherine has previous experience as a Sessional Instructor and curriculum developer with McMaster University, in the Addiction Studies Program. She currently enjoys developing and facilitating workshops in community settings, primarily for EAP contract holders, on topics such as: Bullying & Harassment in the Workplace, Managing Change, Substance Abuse in the Workplace, Parenting Teens, and Mental Health in the Workplace.
